Our History

The community of Paonia got together and established the Paonia Mosquito Control District in 1981 with the initial boundaries the same as the Delta County Fire Protection District #2 in Delta County.  It began with 5 elected Board Members who's terms were either 2 year or 4 year.    They were organized as a governmental subdivision of the State of Colorado and a body corporate with all the powers of a public or quasi-municipal corporation.

January 1985 they bought land south-west of Paonia and constructed their existing cinder-block building.   In 1986 and 2006 more residents from the rural areas and Hotchkiss were approved to be included into the District.

2009 the District name was changed to North Fork Mosquito Abatement District to include the newly formed North Fork residents.
